Is your schedule too busy to take a 2-day course? No problem!  You may register for a Saskatchewan Occupational Health & Safety Approved blended-learning course! 

Blended Learning delivery provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until advanced medical help arrives.

The content and activities will help participants identify and respond to potentially hazardous conditions, recognize emergencies and make appropriate decisions for first aid care. The blended learning courses are designed to be flexible to meet the various needs of course participants.

Each blended learning courses is divided into two components. Participants must first complete the self-paced online component, which includes the written knowledge evaluations, and then successfully complete and instructor-led classroom component (skills practice and evaluation session) in order to achieve certification. Participants' should complete the classroom component with six weeks of completing the online component. If a participant does not attend a classroom session with this time frame, they are required to purchase a second PIN (Product Identification Number) and retake the online component before being admitted into the classroom.

Wilderness & Remote First Aid

Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid Field Guide 

Course Length: 20 hours of amazing wilderness learning                                                                     

July 29: 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm

July 30 & 31: 8:30 am - 5:30 pm 

Weather permitting, over 50% of the course will be taught in the outdoors.

Basic level of Wilderness & Remote First Aid that covers material in Standard First Aid & CPR, plus special material on techniques for wilderness and remote areas. This course also offers strategies for providing extended care for up to 24 hours. Suitable for those who work or live in remote locations or who are outdoor recreation enthusiasts.

First Aid & CPR Instructors support the Red Cross First Aid Program through the delivery of our First Aid and CPR courses. Candidates enter our comprehensive Instructor Development Program, designed to prepare them to support dynamic, learner-centred classroom environments.

Pre-requisite: Must have a current participant certification in the discipline-specific course in which the participant is seeking instructor certification.

First Aid & CPR Instructor Development Pathway

Below is the pathway to become a certified First Aid & CPR Instructor. You must successfully complete each step before advancing to the next step. Certification is valid for three years.

Instructor Pathway First Aid CPR

1. Evaluate Skills and Check Prerequisites

Confirm prerequisites are met: you must be 18 years or older, have a valid participant certificate for the program you wish to teach, and successfully complete a skills evaluation.

2. Fundamentals of Instruction

Complete the Fundamentals of Instruction online component (8 hrs*), and a classroom component (14 hrs 30 min) focused on the application of fundamentals. 

Online component completed prior to attending the skills component.

August 19 & 20; 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

3. Discipline-Specific Classroom Component

Attend the First Aid & CPR discipline-specific classroom component (14 hrs 30 min), which focuses on the specific skills of that program.

August 21 & 22; 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

4. Teaching Experience

Complete the Teaching Experience online module (30-45 min*) and a classroom component with the support of a Teaching Experience Supervisor. 

Dates and times to be arranged by the participant along with a Teaching Experience (TE) Supervisor.

5. Certification

An electronic certification will be issued upon completion. Certified Instructors can teach Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Marine Basic First Aid, Emergency Child Care First Aid, Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR courses.


9.0 MARINE BASIC FIRST AID

Marine Basic First Aid

Includes Red Cross First Aid e-Manual

Basic two-day course offering an overview of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the marine/fishing industry. This course meets the requirements of Transport Canada outlined in Transport Publication (TP) 13008. Designed for any person who wants to obtain a rating certificate, endorsement, or a Master or Chief Mate limited certification, and for those providing first aid on board a vessel engaged on a near-coastal voyage, class 2, or on a vessel on sheltered waters.

3-year certification in Marine Basic First Aid & CPR Level C, equivalent to Standard First Aid & CPR Level C, and AED, and a Transport Canada certification in Marine Basic First Aid.

  • Appreciation of body structure and functions
  • Positioning of person
